Volunteering at Adventist Health Glendale is a great way to get more out of life, whether it’s more involvement in your community, more fulfillment through giving back, or more work experience in healthcare. Our volunteers make a real difference in the lives of our patients, visitors, and staff. Through your service, you’ll have the opportunity to develop skills, build relationships, be part of a great team, and support our mission to live God’s love by inspiring health, wholeness and hope.

In addition to the personal fulfillment that comes from helping patients and serving your community, our volunteers enjoy a variety of perks and opportunities as part of our program, including:
- $8 complimentary meal ticket when you volunteer for 4 or more hours in 1 day

Note: Our program does not provide the opportunity to shadow physicians, nurses, or other health care providers, nor do we allow volunteers to perform any medical procedures.
General requirements for volunteering
Our general requirements as determined by our hospital policies and state regulations include:
- Must be 16 years old or older
- Must be proficient in English (bilingual preferred)
- Must have basic computer skills (e.g., accessing email)
- Must undergo a background check for applicants 18 years old or older (Social Security card and California ID are required)
- High school students must:
- Provide a recommendation
- Undergo a GPA review by their counselor
- Obtain a school stamp upon acceptance
- Must be able to commit to 100 hours of volunteering
Medical requirements
For the safety and wellness of our patients, staff, and other volunteers, all applicants are required to complete and submit the following:
- 10 panel urine drug screen (provided by Adventist Health Glendale): must be negative
- PPD Tuberculosis (TB) skin test
- Proof of immunizations, including:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella)
- Varicella Titer (only if you have had Chicken Pox): required if working with children
- TDAP (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis): must be within 10 years of start
- Influenza vaccine seasonal: required between October 1 and March 31
- COVID-19 vaccination + booster
- Copy of vaccination card required
- Per current Adventist Health Glendale policy, all volunteers must be vaccinated and boosted to volunteer
- Medical or religious exemptions are not permitted at this time
Note: The 10 Panel Urine Drug Screen is provided by Adventist Health Glendale at no cost to the candidate and must be completed at our clinic. Authorization for the drug screen will be provided by the Volunteer Office. Candidates are not permitted to obtain drug screens elsewhere.
Any other health requirements, such as lab work, may be completed at the West Tower through the volunteer office once accepted. Authorization for these services will be given by Employee Health (EH) after the drug screen is completed and all required medical information has been collected.
How to apply become a volunteer
Applying to volunteer is a simple process:
- Fill out the required online application.
- After submitting your application, you will be contacted to be interviewed and discuss new volunteer opportunities. Please allow 4 to 8 weeks for processing.
Note: All applicants will be given equal and fair opportunity to register for an interview when new opportunities are announced. However, not all applicants may be accepted into the program.
