Improving the health of the communities we serve

Guided by our mission, Adventist Health serves 100+ communities throughout California, Hawaii, and Oregon – providing exceptional healthcare that extends beyond our hospital walls through strategic community investments. We partner with local organizations to address the most pressing community health needs that promote health, wholeness, and hope.

Investing in making a difference for individuals and communities

Community impact is at the heart of Adventist Health's vision to improve the health and well-being of our communities. Through strategic planning, financial investments, social impact programs, and more, we're investing in what matters most: health and well-being.

In 2024, Adventist Health provided $1.161 billion total community benefit

  • $36.5 million in charity care
  • $39.2 million in community health improvement
  • $407.8 million in unfunded Medicaid
  • $331.1 million in unfunded Medicare
  • $314.1 million in subsidized health services
  • $32.5 million in education & research

Community Health Needs Assessments

Every three years, our hospitals conduct a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), drawing on both comprehensive health data and the lived experiences of community members. Guided by these insights, hospital and community leaders intentionally address the greatest health needs through the Community Health Implementation Strategy (CHIS).
